Your Questions Answered

Do I need a doctor's referral?

Diagnostic exams require an order from your healthcare provider, who can fax it to (951) 900-6880. Preventive screening packages and SonoMommy 3D/4D sessions don't need a referral. Not sure? Call us at (833) 922-9111 and we'll help.

How do I prepare for my ultrasound?

It depends on your exam. Abdominal, aorta and liver exams need an 8-hour fast; take your medications with a small sip of water. Pelvic, prostate, kidney and bladder exams need a full bladder. Most other exams, like thyroid, echocardiogram and vascular studies, need no special prep. We'll give you exact instructions when you book.

Are these imaging procedures safe for my baby?

Yes, ultrasound is a completely non-invasive and safe diagnostic tool that uses sound waves rather than radiation. It is considered one of the safest imaging methods available for both mother and child.

What should I expect during my first appointment?

Bring your photo ID, insurance card and your doctor's order if you have one. Your sonographer will explain each step and answer your questions. Every exam is read by a board-certified radiologist, and your report is usually sent to your provider within 24 to 48 hours.

How long does a typical scan take?

Most diagnostic and prenatal ultrasounds take between 15 to 45 minutes, depending on the complexity of the scan and the specific needs of your case.
